Rick Santorum Thinks Obama Is "Out of Touch" on Gay Marriage

Rick Santorum may have stopped running for president last month, but he hasn't stopped running his mouth on television.
Behold the latest crazy quote from the former presidential candidate…
Rick Santorum is urging Mitt Romney to "step up" and weaponize the issue of same-sex marriage.
"This is a very potent weapon, if you will, for Governor Romney if he's willing to step up and take advantage of a president who is very much out of touch with the values of America," Santorum said in an eye-opening live interview with Arkansas TV station KARK, a CNN affiliate.
Obama is so "out of touch," said the guy who doesn't believe in condoms, has seven homeschooled children and wears customized sweater vests. The President's support for gay marriage definitely shows that he's way out of the mainstream in America, where the majority of people support gay marriage, including 56% of women.
Despite Santorum's well-known opposition to same-sex marriage, this news about him is kind of surprising. Mainly because it's not the story one would expect upon seeing "Santorum," "gay" and "touch" in the same headline.

Homophobia Not Quite as Popular in America These Days
One of America's most cherished traditions is real danger of being washed away with the coming generation, if this new Gallup poll is to be believed.
It's hard to believe that our children may be forced to grow up in a society in which it is not culturally-acceptable to mock and subjugate gay people for being gay…
The slight majority of American adults, 54%, consider gay or lesbian relations morally acceptable. Public acceptance of gay/lesbian relations as morally acceptable grew slowly but steadily from 38% in 2002 to 56% in 2011 and is now holding at the majority level…
Gallup's longer-term question measuring U.S. attitudes about gays asks whether gay or lesbian relations should or should not be legal. The 63% now saying gay relations should be legal nearly matches the record-high 64% of a year ago, which came after a long-term increase in support for legality from 32% in 1986.
This is really great news for Republicans!
Oh, no, I don't mean the Republican Party. This probably doesn't bode well for that entity in its current incarnation. What I'm talking about is the the roughly two-fifths of all individual Republican legislators who won't face nearly as much of a backlash now when they get themselves Larry Craiged.
Congratulations, guys!

Mitt Romney Hits Barack Obama for Flip-Flopping on Gay Marriage
Well, the guy knows from when he speaks…Asked whether he would be at a disadvantage politically if gays galvanize behind Obama’s reelection campaign, Romney said, "Hopefully, people are focusing on the major issues of the day, which relate to our economy, getting people back to work, dealing with Syria… But I know for many people, the issue of marriage is going to be a defining issue, and they will make their decision on that basis. That is their right. But you don't change your position to try to win states or certain subgroups of Americans. You have the positions you have, and you know, for a long time, I think since the beginning of my career, I have made it very clear that I thought that marriage should be a relationship between a man and a women."
Exactly this! You don't change your position to try to win "certain subgroups of Americans."
You change your position to win very specific subgroups of Americans: religious conservative octogenarian misogynistic homophobes. Because those are the people who come out to vote. All the young hippy liberal do-gooders will be too busy making Smash fan art and taking pictures of their cats to show up to the polls.

Conservatives Acknowledge Rand Paul Couldn't Get Any Dumber
Speaking at a Faith & Freedom Coalition dinner in Waukee, Iowa, Senator Rand Paul tried to make a funny as part of his campaign to reconcile mainstream Republican activists to the influx Ron Paul supporters who have emerged as a powerful force in Republican caucuses and conventions…"The president recently weighed in on marriage and you know he said his views were evolving on marriage. Call me cynical, but I wasn't sure his views on marriage could get any gayer," he said, drawing laughter from the audience.
Though Paul is widely seen as positioning himself as a socially conservative candidate primed to win the 2016 Republican Iowa Caucuses, such comments are still surprising given the support his father engenders among increasingly tolerant young people. It's not as if gay Americans and supporters of Rand Paul's father are so different. For one thing, the former are often closeted, the latter are typically basemented.
Even more surprising was the reaction from Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and social conservative activist Tony Perkins…
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, appearing on CBS' "Face the Nation," strongly disagreed with the Kentucky Republican's choice of words.
"I don't think this is something we should joke about," Perkins said. "We are talking about individuals who feel very strongly one way or the other, and I think we should be civil, respectful, allowing all sides to have the debate…. I think this is not something to laugh about. It's not something to poke fun at other people about. This is a very serious issue."
This is the same Tony Perkins who recently blamed the Secret Service prostitution scandal on the repeal of the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy. Tony "the organization I head is considered a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center" Perkins. When that Tony Perkins thinks you've gone too far, maybe you need a more Ayn Randian approach to quips: everyone in the audience comes up with their own jokes and there's absolutely no sharing.
