Quote Unquote: The War on Terror
Glenn Greenwald on the fallout from the War on Terror…
.
"Given the ongoing American quest for violence from that one-day attack [9/11], just imagine the impact which continuous attacks over the course of a full decade must have on those whom we’ve been invading, droning, cluster-bombing, occupying, detaining without charges, and indiscriminately shooting."
.
Yeah, but… those other people are foreign. They're foreigners from foreign places. Science hasn't even proven that they have souls.
So, it's really not the same thing.

Rick Perry Attacks Obama's Iraq Parade Failure
Who doesn't love a parade? The president, apparently. That's according to Rick Perry, who further alleges that the president doesn't love a parade for the troops…Perry told a crowd of more than 150 people at the [Iowa] Westside Conservative Club: "It really disturbs me that nearly after nine years of war in Iraq, that this president wouldn't welcome home our many heroes with a a simple parade in their honor. Maybe it's because this war isn't popular with Democrats, I don't know, but Mr. President, our soldiers come first, and it comes before party politics."
(Rick Perry is so impervious to party politics, he refrained from mentioning that the war wasn't popular with many Republicans either.) But no matter! The point is, there has been no parade and there is no sign of ticker tape on the horizon, although a couple of New York City councilmen want a Canyon of Heroes shindig a la WWII and the Gulf War. As for what military officials want, they seem concerned that a massive boot-stompin' victory-declarin' ticker-tape parade might send the wrong message–to enemies and troops alike–when we are in the midst of, you know, another war. (Rhymes with Shmafghanistan?)
So really, Perry should be attacking Obama for his failure to compromise. If no parade is the wrong answer, and a full-on NYC ticker-tape number is the wrong answer, how about something in the middle? Like the man said, a simple parade. Maybe just a couple Eagle Scouts in Boise going around the block a few times with their clarinets, or the East Allentown drill team doing their best moves in a parking lot.
Heck, for all we know, the Obamas have invited a few friends and Pentagon officials over, tied some bunting on Bo and taken care of this already in the Rose Garden.
