  • Republicans One Step Closer to Their Dream of an NPR-less World

You know what? You can point out that James O'Keefe's hidden-camera gotcha video of an NPR executive was dishonestly edited all you like. You can ask for somebody to show you a shred of evidence of a left-wing bias in the station's news coverage until you're blue in the face, and it won't matter one bit.

Because, if you define "liberal bias" as anything that does not correspond with the RNC's talking points, then NPR is guilty as charged…

The House plans to vote Thursday on a bill that would remove funding for NPR, according to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's (R-Va.) office…

If the legislation were enacted, it would prohibit direct federal funding to NPR, ban public radio stations from using federal funds to pay their NPR dues and prevent those stations from using federal dollars to buy programming…

A memo from Cantor's office says the new bill, H.R. 1076, would prohibit other federal funding from going to NPR. According to the memo, NPR received over $5 million last year from the CPB, Department of Education, Department of Commerce and the National Endowment for the Arts.

$5 million?! Why, that's nearly as much as the federal government pays to NASCAR every year!

  • Glenn Beck Clearly Is Clearly Just Effing with Us at This Point

No sooner does he leave us all gape-mouthed by doing a thing like this

Beck said he had been cautious about airing video from O'Keefe’s biggest previous sting, which targeted the liberal community organizing group ACORN, explaining "we wanted the raw video because we wanted to make sure that nothing has been taken out of context. I'm not going to Shirley Sherrod someone" — a reference to Breitbart’s posting of video excerpts that seemed to show an African American Department of Agriculture official in a speech expressing racist sentiments that – more complete video footage showed – she was actually renouncing.

"And not that I question James or anything else, I just want to make sure that it's right and that's what we did with The Blaze — just make sure that it’s right," Beck said on the radio Monday.

Then he follows it up by doing a thing like this

Speaking [of the earthquake in Japan] on his radio show Monday, Beck said, "I'm not saying God is, you know, causing earthquakes," before quickly adding, "I'm not not saying that either."

He then said that whatever one called God, "there's a message being sent. And that is, 'Hey, you know that stuff we're doing? Not really working out real well. Maybe we should stop doing some of it.' I'm just saying."

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say that he's getting the impression that we're desensitized to nonsensical things he says, so he has to throw in a few sensical things just to keep us on our toes.

  • Liberals Take Two Shots Right in Their Bleeding Hearts

With the President's announcement that he has given up on the idea of ever shutting down Guantanamo Bay ever and James O'Keefe's pimp slap of NPR, things can feel pretty grim in liberal circles.

But, hey, if liberals didn't want to feel bad about the world around them constantly for their whole lives, they never would have become liberals…

More liberal bad news after the jump.

The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday at 11/10c.

  • NPR Executive Caught on Tape Being All Liberally and Stuff

It's a well known fact that Republicans can't stand the radio show Wait, Wait… Don't Tell Me, think This American Life should change its name to This Liberal Socialist Atheist Blame-America-First Hybrid-Car-Driving Life, and feel that Terry Gross' name is just perfect the way it is.

That's why they're dying to stop federal funds — that could be used for useful things like a third-war in the Middle East or Army advertisements on NASCAR stock cars — from going to the non-profit radio station.

Well, today, they got a big present from their favorite pimp

NPR was jolted Tuesday by the release of a videotape that showed one of the organization's fund-raising executives repeatedly criticizing conservatives and Tea Party supporters.

The executive, Ron Schiller, was recorded secretly by the Republican filmmaker and mischief-maker James O'Keefe. On the videotape, Mr. Schiller calls Tea Party supporters "seriously racist, racist people," and says, "In my personal opinion, liberals today might be more educated, fair and balanced than conservatives."

At some point in the secretly-recorded video, he even says things that some people might dispute.

The release of the video comes at a sensitive time for NPR. Republicans in Congress who view NPR as biased are trying to cut federal funding for its local stations across the country. They are likely to seize on the video as further evidence of their views and further reason to reduce funding for the stations.

Ron Schiller has already left NPR to go and fuck up bigger and more important things, so it's unclear how much this media bomb will affect NPR.

And by "unclear," I mean, "Remember when we used to have a thing called NPR?"
