Sarah Palin Hits Back at HBO Before "Game Change" Release [VIDEO]

Sarah Palin's super PAC just released a rebuttal-before-the-fact of HBO's forthcoming politi-crack film Game Change, claiming that it "presents a history that never happened." Which is odd, if you think about it. I'd always thought that was Palin's favorite kind of history…

I don't know. I think I'm gonna go with the Julianne Moore version. No offense, but I just find her Sarah Palin to be a more believable three-dimensional character.

And I'm not really sure I'm completely following the argument here…

Palin's version uses clips from her 2008 convention speech along with praise from members of McCain’s team to argue that she gave the campaign a much-needed boost. In an e-mail promoting the video, her team urges HBO to label the film "fiction."

(It’s worth noting that two of the aides featured in SarahPAC’s trailer — Steve Schmidt and Nicole Wallace — say they found the movie to be accurate.)

As far as I can tell, the HBO version is not claiming that Sarah Palin did not invigorate the McCain campaign. I think that both trailers are in agreement about that. It's just that the HBO one present sarah Plain as a somewhat duplicitous attention-junky with a childish petulant demeanor.

Actually, I guess both trailers agree on that, too.

Palin Team Criticizes Elitist "Subscription-Only" HBO Movie

Game Change, HBO Films' soon-to-be-released docudrama about the rise of Sarah Palin in the latter months of the '08 presidential election — or, as SarahPAC describes it, "a subscription-only television movie sensationalizing 40 pages of a three-year-old book about the 2008 presidential election" — won't premiere for another three weeks, but it's already coming under fire from the Palin's people, who (probably correctly) are assuming that it will be a somewhat unflattering portrayal of Sarah Palin.

Though, to be fair, one can make an argument that Sarah Palin is a somewhat unflattering portrayal of Sarah Palin…

"I haven’t seen HBO's latest effort at manipulating history," [SarahPAC treasurer Tim] Crawford said. "However, based upon the description and reports from people who have viewed the film 'Game Change,' HBO has distorted, twisted and invented facts to create a false narrative and attract viewers. They call it a docu-drama; there is little "docu" in it. HBO must add a disclaimer that this movie is fiction."

Look, it's bad enough that they're portraying her negatively. But everyone does that. What must be really galling is that they're "distorted, twisted and invented facts," when that's clearly her thing. Have these scoundrels no honor?

Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin, Ed Harris as John McCain, Woody Harrelson as Some Bald Guy

I've been pretty geeked about HBO Films' adaptation of John Heilemann's Game Change since they first released photos of Julianne Moore in make-up, and the fact that it's being made by the same people who made Recount just pushes me over the edge into William Kristol-level slathering.

The first trailer is finally out. Ed Harris looks passable as John McCain, and Woody Harrelson is pretty convincing as a guy with no hair (probably either senior McCain campaign advisor Steve Schmidt or Gordon from Sesame Street, though I'm leaning toward Schmidt). But Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin…

Do they give out Academy Awards for one line spoken in the trailer for a made-for-TV movie? 'Cause I think they might want to consider it.
