Oprah, Stewart and Colbert Announce Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear
From The CC Insider…
In case you missed it, last night's Daily Show got pretty bananas. It was like it was directed by M. Night Shyamalan. And by that, I don't mean it had a discomforting water nymph and plants that make you kill yourself (sounds like my honeymoon!), but rather it was packed with unexpected twists. First Stephen Colbert came on, then he and Jon merged the March and Rally into a single Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear. And then, just when you thought things couldn't get anymore nuts, Oprah showed up. And they were all dead the whole time!
After the jump, Jon announces SaneorNot.com and Stephen discusses the latest Rally developments on The Colbert Report.
The Daily Show and Colbert Report air Monday through Thursday starting at 11pm / 10c.

Just, uh, not so high that we can't see.CONFIDENTIAL TO THE COLBERT NATION: Citizens, the forces of sanity are growing stronger by the day. If we don't strike fear into their calm, civilly discoursing hearts before it's too late, America might finally become the land of reason and tolerance promised by our founding ideals. And no one wants that. Go to SpookyorDooky.com and upload the scariest image you can think of. When you're done, click through to vote for the images that scare you the most. Stewart and Colbert's Dueling Rallies Will Be Broadcast Live

In keeping with a commitment to return to all things reasonable, Jon Stewart has announced that on October 30th his Rally to Restore Sanity and Stephen Colbert's March to Keep Fear Alive will be broadcast live on Comedy Central and streamed live online.
If you're making the trip to D.C., Tuesday night's episode laid down some ground rules. No nudity. No throwing stuff. No fascism. All of which, Jon says, boil down to the very basic "when in doubt, don't be douchey."
But if a busy Halloween weekend means you can't join the level-headed masses on the National Mall between 3rd Street and 7th Street, basic cable and the Internet have you covered.

The Dueling Rallies Go Global

This should be a real load off the minds of the good-natured, concerned folks over at Fox and Friends.
It's looking like not only are Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are well on their way to outpacing Glenn Beck's rally attendance in Washington DC, but they're likely to be joined by thousands of people across the country in a bunch of satellite rallies…
[T]here are shadow rallies planned in 47 states and six foreign countries for October 30, according to rallymao.com, and predicted attendance numbers keep climbing. It seems the world is going crazy for sanity…
"A couple of weeks ago, while we were having dinner together, we were talking about how much we wanted to go to the D.C. rally," wrote Lee, a 38 year-old who works in production and H.R, and Wright, a 32 year-old post-doctoral biology scholar at Caltech, in an e-mail. "Unfortunately, we couldn't afford the time and money it would take to travel all the way to the East Coast." They said that within two weeks of setting up a Facebook page for their event, 2,500 people had signed up to support a rally at L.A.'s Pershing Square.
"We are Jon Stewart fans who love the spirit of the D.C. rally to 'Take it Down a Notch for America'," Lee and Wright added. The pair, along with a number of volunteer organizers, are trying to raise funds for a LED Screen to broadcast the main D.C. event to the crowd.
And it's looking like I'll get to attend this one in my adoptive city of wind and sausages…
[A] group of Chicagoans are planning a satellite event in Grant Park on the same evening without the show’s endorsement or support…
Chicago's event coordinator Angie McMahon [founder of Chemically Imbalanced Comedy]… expects 5,000 people. The rally received a conditional permit, which means it is approved for using Grant Park as long as it comes up with the money required. There is a $5,000 security deposit as well as an estimated $1,600 for insurance, but they hope to raise $30,000. There are various other costs for an event, such as getting a live broadcast of the D.C. rally.
Oh, and I know what you're going to ask, so let me just tell you: Yes, there is going to be a rally on Mt. Everest in Nepal…
This rally will include some Tibetan style symbolism. I'll be taking flags to Base Camp.
Obviously.
You can find the closest rally to you over on rallymao.com.

What the FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU?
There's a lot of DIY Sanity/Fear Rally t-shirts floating around out there — some with more questionable copyright issues than others — but this one is definitely my favorite so far…
