Illinois Senate Passes Marriage Equality on Valentine's Day
Someone forgot to tell the Illinois General Assembly the real meaning of Valentine's Day: spending too much money at the behest of the faux-emotion industry, gnawing on chocolate and whittling away at single people's self-esteems.
Instead of doing any of those things, the Illinois State Senate passed a marriage equality bill with 34 in favor, 21 opposed and 2 present. How dare they do something so meaningful? It's like no one respects the commercialism of the holiday any more!
The debate was dominated by questions about protections for religious institutions, because the sanctity of old codgers whining about the fabric of society is still very much secure. In the end, however, a majority of Illinois state senators decided that if you can't trust fabric to the gays, you can't trust anyone. The bill now moves to the Illinois House, which is expected to pass the measure, right after it polishes off this box of Russell Stovers.

Are Gay Wedding Songs Responsible for the End Times?
As with almost every headline that asks a question, the answer is no. But in an interview with the American Family Association, Pastor Scott Lively claimed that homosexuality, and specifically the music produced for gay weddings, "is the issue of the End Times."Obvious objection interlude: Why should we dedicate even a single brain cell to caring what the crazies on American Family Radio are talking about?
Because members of Congress pay attention to the radio crazies, a fact that happens to be a much stronger sign of fallen humanity than the advance of gay rights. Utah Senator Mike Lee appeared on AFR late last year to denounce a U.N. disability rights treaty and Senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi has been a guest multiple times.
In any case, it's nice of the radio crazies to get specific about what facets of gay culture will incur God's wrath:

Americans Want to Get High at Gay Weddings
Just after midnight, Washington State's law legalizing same-sex marriage went into effect. Jane Abbott Lighty and Pete-e Petersen were given the first same-sex marriage license in King County, proving that social conservatives should focus more on the environmental impact of marriage equality, because damnit, it got real dusty in here all of a sudden.
Can you feel Lighty and Peterson's matrimony slowly boring into the foundation of your heterosexual relationship, undermining your family and uprooting civilized values? No? Neither can most Americans. According to yesterday's Gallup poll, 53% favor legalized same-sex marriage, tying the previous record high. Meanwhile, a new Quinnipiac poll shows marriage equality favored 48 to 46%.
The same Q-Poll found 51-44% support for the legalization of marijuana, coming on the back of a PPP poll showing a 58% majority in favor of recreational weed. It's an impressive sea-change in Americans' political opinions, but I don't think people have considered how long these pot-filled gay weddings are going to take: "Woah, have you looked at this wedding ring? No, I mean really looked at it?"
