Russian Meteorite Eerily Similar to Deep Impact Scenario [VIDEO]
The good news is that, for a few seconds at least, Vladimir Putin was only the second-most terrifying thing in Russia. Via Russia Today, we have this incredible video of a meteorite that crashed near the Ural mountains hours ago.
While this meteorite strike didn't do any serious damage, it's also a nice reminder that capital gains tax cuts and deficit reduction aren't going to save us from an indifferent universe. We should probably give NASA the funding it needs to track potentially dangerous asteroids (and come up with ways to mitigate the threat), because let's not kid ourselves: between these events in Russia and the fact that we have a black president, we're tempting fate with a Deep Impact scenario.
And that movie was terrible.

Did These Members of Congress Vote for Sandy Relief?

While some members of Congress are dismissive of any federal role in disaster relief, there are plenty of others who wax eloquent about the need for emergency declarations, grants and special appropriations.
At least when their constituents are the ones asking for money.

Meet the 180 Members of Congress Who Think They're Immune to Natural Disasters

Two and a half months after Hurricane Sandy struck the Northeast, the House of Representatives on Tuesday night approved a $50.7 billion emergency bill to fund emergency relief efforts by a vote of 241 to 180.
"Based on the extent of the damage, federal assistance is in dire need to help these communities recover and also prepare for future storms," wrote Mike Conaway (R-TX).
"I urge the President to approve this assistance without delay," said Sam Graves (R-MO). "Many communities…have been stretched to the limit preparing for and fighting this unprecedented flood."
"This storm left behind a disaster — there is no doubt, and it is the responsibility of the federal government to aid the state and counties in clean-up and repairing the damage the storm caused," pleaded Michael Burgess (R-TX).
Except! These members of Congress were talking about the natural disasters that hit their own communities. They, along with 176 other Republicans and one Democrat must be pretty sure nothing bad will ever happen in their districts again:

Michael Bloomberg Endorses Barack Obama, Science
Scientists are always throwing around a bunch of "evidence" for this totally make-believe thing they like to talk about called "global warming" or "climate change" or "liberal bullshit." Of course, intellectually-superior conservative politicians aren't getting fooled. I mean, has anybody ever even come up with any evidence to prove that this "evidence" is real? No!Well, until now, at any rate. Given the recent events surrounding Hurricane Sandy, conservatives may have finally found their first bit of evidence linking potential disasters with global warming. And his name is New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg…
Mr. Bloomberg, a political independent in his third term leading New York City, has been sharply critical of both Mr. Obama, a Democrat, and Mitt Romney, the president’s Republican rival, saying that both men have failed to candidly confront the problems afflicting the nation. But he said he had decided over the past several days that Mr. Obama was the best candidate to tackle the global climate change that the mayor believes contributed to the violent storm, which took the lives of at least 38 New Yorkers and caused billions of dollars in damage…

Rush Limbaugh Calls Christie a "Fat Fool"
Barack Obama and Governor Chris Christie took a brotherly tour of New Jersey yesterday, each praising the others' leadership as they surveyed damage in the state. But why the sudden comity? Why doesn't Chris Christie reject federal aid in lieu of Mitt Romney's canned garbanzo beans from Ohio? Or criticize the president for failing to appoint a horse judge as FEMA director? Or invite Paul Ryan into the state to cleanup all the debris that has already been cleared by DPW workers, like a real conservative leader?
It could be that Christie actually cares about the state he governs, though Rush Limbaugh has an alternate explanation…
