  • How About a Nice Game of "Domestic Terrorism or Patriotic Protestation?"

Oh, my. Have you heard about this not-actually-Christian Christian group Hutaree that was planning to murder a bunch of cops? I'm sure that I'm supposed to be disturbed about this, but I'm not sure exactly what kind of disturbed I'm supposed to be. I mean, am I supposed to be no holds barred Muslim soldier shooting people on military base disturbed, or just mildly guy flying plane into IRS building disturbed?

Let's play a game of "Domestic Terrorism or Patriotic Protestation?" to find out! Here's the news story; you make the call

Nine members of the Christian militia group Hutaree have been indicted on multiple charges involving an alleged plot to attack police, including seditious conspiracy and attempted use of weapons of mass destruction, the U.S. Attorney in Michigan announced this morning…

The Hutaree members allegedly "planned to kill an unidentified member of local law enforcement and then attack the law enforcement officers who gather in Michigan for the funeral."

The indictment continues: "According to the plan, the Hutaree would attack law enforcement vehicles during the funeral procession with Improvised Explosive Devices with Explosively Formed Projectiles, which, according to the indictment, constitute weapons of mass destruction."

Oh, this one's tough. It really is. On the one hand, this is a Christian group, not a Muslim one. So, that's a point towards Patriotic Protestation. But, on the other hand, Mike Vanderboegh — the former militia guy who was inciting conservatives to reenact Kristallnacht because health care reform passed Congress — thinks they're a little too crazy for his taste. So, that's a point towards Domestic Terrorism.

This is gonna be a squeaker. Make your call, and meet me after the jump to see if you were right…
