The Daily Show to John McCain: It Gets Worse

John McCain is once again drawing ire this week for his conservative stance on repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell. And sure, it's an outdated position that discriminates against our own citizens and makes us less safe, but give the guy a break. Allowing homosexuals to serve is a big step for a guy who enlisted right after they lifted the ban on homosapiens.

"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" to Definitely Maybe Be Repealed Eventually Hopefully Under Certain Conditions For Real!

Oh my God! Have you heard about the gay people and the military and the gay people in the military?

Apparently, the White House nodded its head in approval over some kind of "deal" between gay rights activists, Congress and the Department of Defense, and now "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" could be shit-canned by as early as this week! Or maybe even as early as never? I think? I don't know. Maybe…

The White House budget office sent a letter supporting the proposal to remove the Clinton-era "don't ask, don't tell" law even as the Pentagon continues a review of the system. Implementation of policy for gays serving openly would still require the approval of President Barack Obama, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Mike Mullen. How long implementation might take is not known, but the proposed amendment would have no effect on current practices.

"The proposed amendment will allow for completion of the comprehensive review, enable the Department of Defense to assess the results of the review, and ensure that the implementation of the of the repeal is consistent with standards of military readiness, effectiveness, unit cohesion, recruiting and retention," budget chief Peter Orszag wrote in identical evening letters to Pennsylvania Rep. Patrick Murphy, Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman and Michigan Sen. Carl Levin — the Democrats leading the push for repeal.

There go those Democrats again. Shoving their radical liberalism down the throat of America when only a mere 75 percent of the country are asking for it.

Robert Gates Promises Military to Ease Up on the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" Stuff

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is today announcing plans to relax the U.S. military's currently-used strict "Get Those Gays Out of Here" policy of dealing with homosexual soldiers, making it more difficult for gay soldiers to be relieved of duty for being gay soldiers…

Officials said the new steps would include a requirement that only a general or admiral could initiate action in cases where service members were suspected of violating the prohibition against openly gay service in the armed forces.

The guidelines would also raise the standard required for evidence to be presented in such cases, an effort to prevent "malicious outing" by a third party or jilted partner, officials said.

So, apparently, producing a fellow soldier's iPod which includes both versions — 1956 Original Broadway Cast and 1964 Film Soundtrack — of the My Fair Lady soundtrack will no longer count as evidence. Because that totally does not make you gay. It sometimes just means that you appreciate the works of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe. (What?! They were really talented. Oh, shut up. You don't know anything.)

Iraq War Is Winding Down, "Operation New Dawn" Is Just Beginning

President Obama has promised that when we wake up on September 1, the Iraq war (aka Operation Iraqi Freedom) will be over. But that leaves us without a theme, a brand, if you will, for all the miscellenous quagmires we'll still be mopping up in Iraq.

At last, here's an Iraq-related issue with a very simple fix…

As of Sept. 1, Operation Iraqi Freedom becomes Operation New Dawn.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates said in a memo Wednesday that the name change — which is to immediately follow the scheduled withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraq — will send a strong signal that American forces have a new mission.

Sure! Or, it'll remind Iraqis of the time Fallujah turned into a morass of rubble and refugees.

Either way, it's pretty catchy.
