Robert Gibbs Would Like to See Donald Trump's Tax Returns Now Please

Former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs has a good point! How do we know that Donald Trump hasn't been paying his taxes to Kenya?

"Donald Trump said he’d release his tax returns as soon as the president released his birth certificate, so the ball is in his court now, and I know everybody is anxious to see his tax returns over the last 10 years," Gibbs told Politico.

Trump first floated the trade-off in an interview with ABC earlier this month.

"Maybe I’m going to do the tax returns when Obama does his birth certificate," said the real estate mogul, whose wealth has long been a matter of dispute. "I may tie my tax returns [to the birth certificate]. I’d love to give my tax returns."

And, while he's already in the groove of releasing things, can we also please get a look at all that unbelievable information that his detectives supposedly uncovered in Hawaii? I can't wait to see all the real life things those totally not make-believe detectives came up with.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs — who we saw earlier today making a personal appeal to Jon Stewart — is cuddly and would probably make a great snuggle partner in front of, say, a roaring fireplace. You could have Swiss Miss in mugs and wear matching Slankets as the snow fell outside and settled gently on the frozen ground. Perhaps a deer would pause outside your window, her breath crystallized in the air, and look in as you spooned with Gibbs and giggled over Jake Tapper's silly question the other morning or that weird tie that one dude from NPR always wears.

But the current White House press secretary has borrowed a page from the former Democratic president, answering questions from the public in front of a crackling West Wing fireplace.

Squeee! For those of you who are uneducated beasts and do not know about Great Moments in Radio History, FDR used to do these famous "fireside chats" in the '30s and '40s as a way to directly address citizens in their own homes. It was a far more intimate experience than reading a presidential address reprinted in the newspaper (these were sort of like blogs, but with "facts," and printed on the guts of trees).

A Personal Appeal to Jon Stewart from White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs

If every Jon Stewart reading this would simply devote his time to persuading the Senate to pass a bill — which, by all rights, should be seeing sweeping bipartisan support — then the Republican blockade of the 9/11 First Responder Bill would be over in just a few days…

Robert Gibbs, President Obama’s press secretary, told reporters on Tuesday that he hopes the Comedy Central host can persuade enough Republican senators to vote for a 9/11 health bill so it can head to the president’s desk.

"If there's the ability for that to sort of break through in our political environment, there's a good chance that he can help do that," Gibbs said in his briefing. "I think he has put the awareness around this legislation. He's put that awareness into what you guys cover each day, and I think that's good. I hope he can convince two Republicans to support taking care of those that took care of so many on that awful day in our history."

This year, please consider making Congress behave as though they were adult human beings with actual feelings of empathy.
