Stephen Colbert's Best 2nd Amendment Moments
From The CC Insider…
The Second Amendment guarantees a citizen's right to bear arms and is undoubtedly one of the most contentious sections of the US Constitution. On one side of the issue, you have those who believe guns are essential to a truly free society. On the other side, there are those who say gun rights should be limited, because they endanger a free society. And on the lesser-known third side, there are those of us who wish the amendment guaranteed a pair of actual bear arms for each American. See if you can guess where Stephen Colbert stands on the issue.

Colbert Breaks Down Arizona's New Gun Rights Bill
On last night's Colbert Report, Stephen discussed a proposed bill in Arizona that would protect absent-minded gun owners who forget they're carrying a gun and also forget that guns are dangerous. Obviously, this is a smart move, but it doesn't really go far enough to protect our God-given second-amendment rights. I say, until I have the right to drive a concealed tank, there's still work to be done.

Utah Now Has a State Gun to Go Along with Its State Cooking Pot
Well hey, kids! It sure does seem like everyone's doing a lot of grown-up talking about guns lately, doesn't it? Some people are being very serious about it, by trying enact federal gun control laws.Other people — like Utah's state congress — are being very very serious about it, by decided to enact… a Gun Appreciation Day! Hooray!
Yes, a committee in the Utah House of Representatives voted 9 to 2 this week to approve a bill that would add the Browning pistol to the pantheon of official state things, along with the bird (seagull), rock (coal) and dance (square). Also, although it really has nothing to do with this discussion, I have to mention that the Utah Legislature has provided its citizens with an official state cooking pot, and it is the Dutch oven.
"This firearm is Utah," Representative Carl Wimmer, the Browning bill’s sponsor, told The Salt Lake Tribune… Capitol observers say the Browning bill has an excellent chance of becoming law.
Since Carl Wimmer is anti-abortion and anti-family planning, perhaps this gun celebration is just his real Amurican way of keeping the state's population down.

Actual Propositions That People Are Standing in Line to Vote for Today
by Dina Hashem
With issues of fiscal policy, government administration, elections and campaigns, and, most notably, the legalization of a certain 'drug,' dominating the November 2nd elections, we'd like to take a moment to examine some of the more lighthearted issues on the ballots. Issues like hunting rights, as represented by Tennessee, South Carolina, Arizona, and Arkansas. Each of these states have proposed constitutional amendments providing for the right to hunt, while opponents argue that there is no threat to hunting, and that the measure is 'frivolous and unnecessary.' Why, I've never heard a more superfluous and gratuitous criticism in my life! What could be less frivolous and unnecessary than an amendment which protects a right we already have? For the answer to that riddle, we turn to the people of Kansas and their Right to Bear Arms Question. Also known as Constitutional Amendment Question 1, the measure would allow the right to bear arms for lawful purposes. Well, is someone going to tell Kansas that their question was answered in 1787? Ah yes, Paul Hemke from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence stated that, "The U.S. Supreme Court in two different decisions over the last two years has determined that the 2nd amendment is applicable to the states. This is completely ridiculous and unnecessary." I and the people of Kansas beg to differ: reassuring them of their right to bear arms, a right already protected by the second amendment of the US Constitution, would certainly be to their benefit; clearly they can't read.

Basil Marceaux, the Next Governor of Whichever State, on Jimmy Kimmel
Basil Marceaux — gubernatorial candidate in Tennessee and for-certain future of the Republican Party — was on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to talk about his stance on gun control: upholding the very-well-known Constitutional-mandate that makes it illegal to not own a gun. You know that mandate, right? It's in the Second Mendmendment…
This guy really makes Sharron Angle look like Michele Bachmann. And I mean that in the best possible way possible.
