South Carolina Is Not Done Fighting the Civil War
For the sake of everyone's sanity, let's hope the entire South Carolina state legislature is part of an elaborate historical reenactment intended to teach children about the pitfalls of states' rights. Otherwise this legislation, passed out of a South Carolina Senate committee, would be pretty ridiculous:

Mark Sanford's Life Just Keeps Getting Weirder
Remember Mark Sanford, the Republican governor of South Carolina who disappeared for a week from the governor's mansion and told reporters he was hiking the Appalachian trail before admitting he was in Argentina the whole time, discussing the health of South Carolina's private sector — particularly the private sector in his pants — with a special lady friend?He's back!
And he's planning to run for the Congressional seat he held nearly a decade ago, as a replacement for Tim Scott, who is being elevated by Gov. Nikki Haley to take Jim DeMint's Senate seat.
That leads us to a game I call: South Carolina Politics or Rejected Sitcom Pilot?

State Republicans Get Pushy with Obamacare
When the Supreme Court was asked to repeal Obamacare, they said no. But they probably didn't really mean it, right?
A Republican lawmaker in South Carolina has introduced legislation that would send state and federal officials to jail for implementing the Affordable Care Act. …the proposal, which has been has been prepared by state Rep. Bill Chumley (R) for next year’s legislative session, threatens state officials with up to two years in jail and a $1,000 fine for enforcing the law.
"I think we’re within our rights to do this," Chumley said.
Of course you are, South Carolina. Just because the South lost the Civil War doesn't mean that federal law trumps state law. Wait, now you too, Wisconsin?!
Last month, a group of Wisconsin lawmakers also said they would support nullifying the law and arresting federal officials for trying to enact it. One of them, state Rep. Chris Kapenga (R) openly paid little mind to the court’s decision.
"Just because Obama was re-elected does not mean he’s above the constitution," Kapenga said.
These guys just won't take no for an answer. That attitude reminds me of a classic Christmas song. I believe it goes something like this…

Meet Tim Scott, Your New Jim DeMint
Earlier this month Jim DeMint announced he was leaving the Senate in January to run the Heritage Foundation, perhaps because the Wingnuts of America Foundation isn't hiring.
This meant that South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley got to pick someone to replace him, and today she will announce her choice: Rep. Tim Scott, a Tea Partier who joined Congress during the Republican midterm victory in 2010. What is his deal?
