  • Quote Unquote: Cap Gun Trade

Iowa Rep. Steve King on the ineffectiveness of gun control legislation:

    .

"We all had our cap pistols when I was growing up, and that didn't seem to cause mass murders in the street."

    .

Perhaps Steve King would be open to legislation that replaces all assault weapons with cap guns? Because I bet he could get a lot of support for that.

  • Steve King Worries Relief Funds Might Be Spent on Gucci Bags

One of the worst things about Halloween are the dumb costumes many adults choose to wear. For example, at last night's congressional debate, Iowa Rep. Steve King came dressed as a douchebag

"I want to get them the resources that are necessary to lift them out of this water and the sand and the ashes and the death that's over there in the East Coast and especially in the Northeast," King said during a Tuesday evening debate in Mason City, Iowa.

So far, so good! You're doing so well…

"But not one big shot to just open up the checkbook, because they spent it on Gucci bags and massage parlors and everything you can think of in addition to what was necessary," he said later, referring to Hurricane Katrina.

Two points in King's favor: One, that was a very convincing rendition of a douchebag. Two, at least he didn't make an attempt at being a sexy douchebag.

Sadly, I have to take points off for creativity. That costume is virtually indistinguishable from King's every day persona.

  • Todd Akin Pays Claire McCaskill Highest Compliment

Let's grant that the failure of Todd Akin's mouth to shut down all the legitimately offensive things his brain comes up with presents a serious problem. But consider the Republican Senate candidate's latest statement about his opponent Claire McCaskill

"She goes to Washington, D.C., it's a little bit like one of those dogs, 'fetch,'" Akin said. "She goes to Washington, D.C., and get all of these taxes and red tape and bureaucracy and executive orders and agencies and brings all of this stuff and dumps it on us in Missouri."

At first glance, comparing McCaskill to a dog appears just as bad as all the other remarks Akin has recently made. However, we shouldn't be making such a judgement without first consulting a nutjob-to-English dictionary. As a native speaker, Iowa's Rep. Steve King makes for the perfect translator…

When WHO TV's John Bachman asked King about a time when he compared immigrants to dogs by saying the U.S. could have the "pick of the litter," King responded, "It was a compliment, John."

Turns out that in his native tongue, calling Claire McCaskill a dog is actually the nicest thing Todd Akin has ever said about a woman.

  • Rep. Steve King Wants in on Todd Akin's Action

Another day, another terrible comment about rape and abortion said by a Republican politician. This time it's Rep. Steve King, who was asked by a local Iowa station about abortion in cases involving young statuary rape or incest victims.

The biggest difference between Stephen King and Rep. Steve King is Stephen King writes things that are horrific and Rep. Steve King just says things that are horrific.

If you can't watch the video, here's the quote in question…

  • Rep. Steve King Mulls "Backsies" Legislation

Considering the intensity with which Iowa Republican Steve King defends innocent Americans whose only "crime" is to physically and psychologically abuse animals before pitting them against each other in a fighting pit and forcing them to rip each other to shreds in a fight to the death for the amusement of spectators, it's a miracle he has the wherewithal to do anything else besides opposing federal rules banning animal cruelty. And yet he does!

King's latest foray into policy-making  is the consideration of a bill that would repeal everything Barack Obama has signed into law. Ev-er-y-thing. In other words, we are going to be renaming A LOT of post offices.

Though as ThinkProgress points out, such a broad repeal bill would also undo the extension of the Bush tax rates that Obama signed in 2010, defund the military, and most alarmingly, annul legislation "authorizing funding to honor and celebrate the centennial of Ronald Reagan's birth."

An even greater complication would arise if Obama signed the King bill repealing everything Obama has ever signed into law, thereby also repealing the repeal bill and launching us into a paradoxical loop of existential despair, which come to think of it, we already occupy whenever confronted with an idea emanating from Steve King.
