  • Hey, Who's in Charge of the TSA? Let's Ask Jim DeMint!

jim-demint-hand-vertSpeaking of the airline security system, perhaps you're wondering why we haven't heard much from the head of the Transportation Security Administration, the agency in charge of airline security.

That's because a temp is running the TSA while a permanent director is locked out of his office, thanks to a real American hero

[T]he post remains vacant because Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) has held up President Obama's nominee in an effort to prevent TSA workers from joining a labor union.

President Obama's nominee, Erroll Southers, is a counterterrorism expert and former FBI special agent who has been approved by two bipartisan Senate committees, but that is simply not good enough for Jim DeMint, who is put off by Southers' support for labor organization. Isn't "pro-union, counterterrorism" an oxymoron?

DeMint, in a statement, said Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's alleged attempted attack in Detroit "is a perfect example of why the Obama administration should not unionize the TSA."

For now, DeMint said, the TSA has "flexibility to make real-time decisions that allowed it to quickly improve security measures in response to this attempted attack.' He said that if organized labor were involved, union bosses would have the power "to veto or delay future security improvements at our airports."

Yeah, kind of like how Senators from South Carolina have the power to delay security improvements at our airport security agency.
