23/6: Progressives Angry That Karl Rove Likes Things

Over in 23/6's The Room, satirist hits an unpleasant nerve…

Anger, outrage and confusion spread through the progressive political community as sources close to Karl Rove began leaking a list of things that Rove reportedly likes. The list, emailed to The Politico anonymously, includes details that are disturbing to many longtime foes of the former top advisor to President Bush including that Rove approves of President-Elect Barack Obama's recent cabinet picks, that 'Bush's Brain' enjoys Jamba Juice, and that Rove loves The Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy, especially the old BBC radio version.

These revelations come amidst a chaotic times where both center-left Democrats and the party's traditional liberal base both really hate it when Karl Rove likes anything. Pundits took no solace that sources claim Rove was 'sorta disappointed' in the recent film adaptation of Hitchhiker's.

It's gonna be a difficult 4 to 8 years for us liberals.

God, I hate winning. Why do all the bad things always have to happen to us?

You see, it's not just deluded social conservatives and African-American castratos who inexplicably wear cowboy hats thanking Sarah Palin this holiday weekend. Liberals are equally as appreciative…

God, she did so much to bring this country together under one common cause. How will we ever be able to pay our debt to this selfless woman?

Here's a new feature I'm gonna start doing on most days. Really just a list of some interesting articles or websites that we didn't have time to hit.

* Apparently, "Barack" and "Rahm" mean lightning and thunder in Hebrew. And, interestingly enough, congresspeople will be able to know how serious a situation is by counting the seconds between when Obama says something and Emanuel comes around to break their arms.

* Do not misunderestimate Rahm Emanuel's vocal eloquence.

* Did you know? Chuck Norris once became popular for no apparent reason whatsoever.

* Matt Drudge, like your finer forms of fungus, will just never go away completely.

* Mormons thrilled they get to tell other people their marriages are fucked up.

Following on the heels of the international terrorists endorsement of McCain, 23/6 — known as the Al Jazeera of political humor — released this Al Qaeda ad attacking Barack Obama…

This is obviously a violation of campaign finance laws, them being a foreign interest group and all, so if we can't actually arrest the terrorists for having blown shit up we can totally nail them on this.

I was inexplicably invited to participate in a panel discussion on comedy and politics, moderated by MSNBC's Chief Legal Correspondent Dan Abrams, alongside 23/6 editor Jason Reich, Daily Show writer Kevin Bleyer and The Onion's web editor Baratunde Thurston on Monday night the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater in Manhattan .

We had a packed house, a warm and forgiving audience, a great moderator and free bottles of water. Overall, the night was a fantastic success.

Out of my depth alongside so many talented and accomplished people as I was, my personal goal was to not embarrass myself too, too badly. And I think I almost succeeded…

Our good friends over at 23/6 were kind enough to set up a panel discussion with a bunch of really funny writers from The Daily Show, The Onion and 23/6.

Unfortunately, they were also dumb enough to invite me. (After tonight, they'll never make that mistake again, I can assure you.)

It's called "PENCILS DOWN: An Evening with America's Funniest Writers" (probably because "PENCILS DOWN: An Evening with America's Funniest Writers… Oh and Also That Strange Little Disagreeable Guy From That One Website" was too long.)
