When asked why he hasn't resigned from the Senate yet (uh, he hasn't resigned from the Senate yet?), Uncle Joe let fly a bunch of malarkey about how his greatest achievement was being elected by the people of Delaware, not the people of non-Delaware America, so he wants to be sworn in again, for kicks.

GEORGE: But you're not going to stay on and try to preside…

BIDEN: No, no, no, no, no, absolutely not. I've already — if I haven't done it — to be honest with you, I think I've done it, but if I haven't done it, I've signed a letter, will sign a letter saying, notwithstanding the fact I'll be sworn in the first day, I have no intention of staying up until the day that I am sworn in as vice president. Secondly, I yield responsibility to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to John Kerry. No, I have, no.

To be precise, Joe Biden "yielded responsibility to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee" by pinky-swearing with John Kerry in the cafeteria.

They sealed the deal by giving Mitch McConnell a swirlie.

* People who don’t realize that the vice presidents before them did in fact have foreign policy experience

Well watch out, glass ceiling: Sarah Palin is a member of all three groups! Most notably the last one…

During her interview with ABC News' Charlie Gibson Thursday, Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin attempted to deflect a question about the fact that she has never met a foreign head of state by saying that "man" other vice presidential nominees in history hadn't met a head of state either…

"Have you ever met a foreign head of state?" Gibson asked Palin Thursday.

"I have not," Palin said, "and I think if you go back in history and if you ask that question of many vice presidents, they may have the same answer that I just gave you."

However Palin, who obtained her first passport two years ago, would in fact be the first vice president in 32 years who hadn’t met a foreign head of state, if she were elected.

That's right, Governor. Even Dan Quayle had done it, (although he needed a Latin translator of course.)

But so what if Palin's a little behind the curve on this one? In every other way, she could fit right in with that old boys club of Al Gore, Lyndon Johnson and Teddy Roosevelt.

I mean, all those past VPs issued a war threat to Russia in their first national interview, too, right??

My head is killing me right now…

I can totally sympathize with a small town mayor/hockey mom/pitbull with lipstick not knowing what The Bush Doctrine is.

But when the possible 45th President of the United States doesn't know what it is, I start looking up instructions for building personal bomb shelters.

My guess is that we'll hear a lot of wildly divergent takes on this series of interviews over the next few days.

Like Plain herself, people will read into this what they please.

6:59 – Well, that was underwhelming. Too short. Questions shaped too similarly like softballs. Lots of rambling, and at least one scary comment about Israel.

But, on the other hand, she spoke in complete sentences, she didn't shoot Gibson in the face, and she clearly knew Charlie's name. And that's all she really needed to accomplish.

6:55 – Argh! Come on. Bring back the goddamn interview that's boring me to tears.

6:53 – Thank you, hilo08. If it makes you feel any better, I'd rather not be watching this interview either. I wonder if they're replaying her acceptance speech on any other channel.

6:45 – What bullshit! We have to wait until the end for the rest of this glum interview?

6:42 – She's really not too great at answering questions in this format, is she? She stumbles over her words a lot and doesn't look too confident.

She really is the GOP's Barack Obama.

6:41 – She's not answering the question about invading Pakistan. She just keeps saying the same thing over and over again.

6:39 – She did a nice job sidestepping the George Bush question. But she's kind of flailing now with the Pakistan stuff.

6:38 – "We cannot second guess the steps that Israel has to do to defend themselves." Oh, are we the United States of Israel now?

6:37 – "Nuke U Lar." I guess it wasn't spelled out phonetically.

6:36 – "You can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska." Oh, well, she clearly has foreign policy experience.

6:35 – "Have you ever met a foreign head of state?" I haven't. But neither have all those other ethereal people.

6:32 - She said she "didn't hesitate"? She "didn't blink"? After being asked to be the second most powerful person in the country? That's kind of scary.

6:04 – Because I apparently don't have anything better to do with my time, I'm gonna be liveblogging Sarah Palin's interview with Charlie Gibson on ABC's World News tonight at 6:30.

While we're waiting, let's pour through some excerpts from the interview.

She looks pretty good from what I've seen.

I rarely remember my dreams, but for the past week, GOP vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin has been haunting me. Night after night, she appears in my dreams, always as a scolding, ominous figure.

When I mentioned my Palin dreams to Slate colleagues, they volunteered their own. One Obama-supporting colleague dreamed she had urged her young son to kill Palin with a string bean. Another dreamed she was at a fashion show and Palin served her creme fraiche on little scooped corn chips.

A third says, "In the Sarah Palin dream I keep having, she has superhuman powers but is not really a person at all. In fact, she is more like the weather with glasses and an up-do, pushing clouds around and pitching lightning bolts."

I myself have not had any Sarah Palin dreams at all. But that probably because I haven't gotten any sleep at all since I became aware of the distinct possibility that someone who believes more so in talking snakes than in my niece's right to equal pay is very likely to be the vice-president.

This Palinphobia has really been making the rounds in the scuzzy, liberal circles in which I run. Everybody I know is scared shitless of her. And not just because John McCain apparently chose her as his running mate on a dare. People are imbuing her with dark, mystical powers.

But why? Based on what? A couple of really well-delivered speeches that George Bush's speechwriter wrote for her and a YouTube video of her reporting on an Iditarod? (I guess. That's really all it took for the GOP base to accept her as their new savior.)

My guess is that — in the absence of having any decent amount of information on her — people are attaching their own fears and hopes onto her (exactly as they did with Obama several months ago, before we all heard him speak a few billion times).

Later this week, we'll get to see her interview with Charlie Gibson on ABC News. After that, maybe I'll get to actually sleep and have my own Sarah Palin dreams.

Or Iditarod dreams.

Or, hopefully, both.

But, have you seen this newly-turned-up footage of Edwards being interviewed on his infidelity on ABC?

Kinda makes him a little more sympathetic, doesn't it?
