Once he roamed the streets, moving from shelter to shelter. Now, Oliver Gomes rubs shoulders with Washington's elite.

Squatting next to a white wall outside a Senate hearing room recently with a cell phone glued to his ear, Gomes is being paid to hold a place in line for a lobbyist at a hearing on the climate-change bill.

Oh, so, they're getting homeless people to fill in for lobbyists in Washington these days.

I've been wondering if maybe political satirists might be getting redundant these days. And I guess here's my answer.

I wonder if my bed is still waiting for me at home.

Update: I've decided to give politics one more chance to stopping doing my job for me.

Let's see what's happening in Sonia Sotomayor's confirmation hearings today…

Hey, Arizona! Fantastic job electing Sylvia Allen to your state senate. This is a person who really knows how to use logic and understanding of facty things and a decent enough substitute for science to really make things happen.

Like, take for example, this except from a state senate session when she throws a logic grenade into the middle of an environmental debate and lets it explode kaplow all over everybody else's minds…

Exactly! I couldn't have put it in any more clearish terms myself. The Earth has been here for a whole 6,000 years and it hasn't been destroyed yet. So, what's all the concern now?

Come on now. Use your logic. 6,000 years is a loooooong time. It's 365,000 times longer than the entire time it took God to build the Earth out of magic powder and prayers. And, you've got to figure, in that time there's been countless attempts to destroy it by all the demons and dragons and orcs and chupacabras and drow elves and displacer beasts and that one evil sub-species of unicorns. And it's still here! So, the Earth is either pretty resilient, or it's under an incredibly powerful spell of protection from a witchdoctor.

Either way, it can withstand a few more years of pummeling by us. At least until Jesus flies his magic bus down from Heaven to pick up all the faithful before the Rapture.

And, after that, who cares?

As predicted, the House of Representatives recently passed legislation that would regulate greenhouse gas emissions and guarantee Americans a polar bear in every pot, so long as that pot is made from 75% post-consumer granola. Now the measure heads to the Senate, where at least one man has the carbon-based stones to ask: What, exactly, is the Environmental Protection Agency trying to hide?

A top Republican senator has ordered an investigation into the Environmental Protection Agency's alleged suppression of a report that questioned the science behind global warming.

"[Report author Alan Carlin] came out with the truth. They don't want the truth at the EPA," Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla, a global warming skeptic, told FOX News, saying he's ordered an investigation. "We're going to expose it."

Yes! Transparency, that's what we need in these matters; just think how much time we've wasted on "evolution" because people keep planting those hoax fossils underground. Anyway, kudos to Jim Inhofe for standing up to the EPA on behalf of skilled scientist Alan Carlin…

An EPA official told FOXNews.com on Monday that Carlin, who is an economist — not a scientist — included "no original research" in his report. The official said that Carlin "has not been muzzled in the agency at all," but stressed that his report was entirely "unsolicited."

"It was something that he did on his own," the official said. "Though he was not qualified, his manager indulged him and allowed him on agency time to draft up … a set of comments."

Oh, what, now you have to be a "scientist" to write policy reports about science? Who gets to decide what makes a person a "scientist," anyway? That's right, other "scientists." See how this sham works?

And now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go draft up a report disproving calculus. I just have a hunch, is all, and I hated that crap in school.

I have a new favorite website that I recently found. It's called Rapture Ready, and its mostly a message board designed as a place for Evangelical Christians to share stories about the growing evil presence they feel sweeping over the world and how excited they all are that Jesus will be carrying them all up to Heaven any day now.

I read it kind of anthropologically, to see what people who are absolutely nothing like me are thinking. I usually find it relatively harmless — if maybe somewhat sad — but I recently came upon this exciting message of anti-environmental hope — from someone called elpnvn — that really touched me. And so I felt the need to share…

My job is to help [kids] with their homework. They have little study groups and I lead them. Sometimes they ask current event questions and today, like many other days, the kids asked about global warming. They never ask what exactly it is or if it is actually true…instead they ask what they can do to stop it. They are genuinely worried about it.

So the kids start naming stuff like recycling, carpooling, etc. and I started praying. I asked God if there was anything I could say to stop them from believing that global warming is a problem. I really hate that they have been so deceived. When I mention stuff like how not all scientists agree it is true, they kind of look at me like I've lost my mind.

Well within about 15 seconds of praying, while the kids were still talking about global warming, a girl in my group randomly started talking REAL loud and interrupted all of the kids. She didn't just start talking about anything though…she started talking about the rapture!!!! I was so excited!!! she must have rambled about it for ten whole minutes, completely ending the global warming talk. She even started talking about the mark of the beast and how she learned that it is bad to take it and she started talking about the RFID chip. this girl is twelve! she usually only talks about her clothes and boys. it was so unexpected, but I was so relieved and grateful! Praise God!!

Praise God, indeed! How absolutely wonderful that this little girl has been freed from the somewhat overblown but actually based in scientific research fear of problems that humanity faces as its climate changes!

Instead, she only has to live with the absolute belief that she and her family will be whisked away to a post-life existence while almost everyone she knows will live out the remainders of their short lives in horror as the living embodiment of evil prowls the Earth for their souls, which will eventually be thrust into a lake of fire to writhe in agony for all time.

That's such a better image for a 12-year-old to be carrying around in her head.

Obviously, the other good compassionate Christians on the board we're just as excited as me…

* "I love hearing stories like this." (NewWorldOrder)

* "AWESOME!! What a great day for you AND the Lord!!" (lyngraphics)

* "What an Amazing story. Thanks and God bless! " (Jesusshineonme62)

* "I hope all their ears were burning and they'll start researching the rapture instead of worrying about global warming!" (1angel4u)

* "Maybe you can help her lead them to Christ and tell them the truth about global warming so they'll stop believing the lies that the liberal media keeps feeding our children." (preciousdaughter)

Wouldn't that be nice?

The bad news is that we've still got another 45 months of blasphemous science education and evil stewardship of the Earth to suffer through.

But the good news is, President Palin should be taking over in 2012. And the world should be ending shortly thereafter.

You've really gotta admire a guy like Pence who can dance around a question for that long.

Which can either mean the recession is easing, or it just might be more of a stroll to economic ruin, rather than a sprint. For now, focus on the positive: you won't have to pitchfork fight for canned food in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Yet! Yay! [yahoo.com]

You can build a house out of it, and be the alpha hippie on the block. They're bricks! Earth-saving bricks! Made out of poo, wonderful poo! [treehugger.com]

As I'm sure you're aware, the world is still reeling from the total intellectual ass-kicking that Rep. Joe Barton gave that pencil-neck geek Energy Secretary Stephen Chu the other day when he asked him to explain how all that Texas-style oil got underneath the Alaska-style ground.

Obviously, Chu retreated into a whole bunch of sciencey kind of bullshit which was obvious bullshit science stuff — totally embarrassing himself — and Rep. Barton walked away as the smartest man in the 6,000 year history of the Earth.

Anyway, Get Your War On's old author David Rees doesn't think Barton should have been so merciful as to stop there, and suggests a number of other questions that Chu needed to be asked…

"Why can't I see the wind? Is it made of ghosts?"

"How did all that water get in the ocean?"

"How come sometimes when I look at a cloud, it reminds me of a shape, like a horse or an airplane or something?"

"How come things are all different colors?"

"If solar power is so great, why isn't there a Psalm in the Bible that says, 'Solar power is so great / that is my honest opinion, sayeth the Lord'?"

"If global warming is so real, how come I had never heard of it until people started talking about it?"

"How did this thumb on the end of my arm get stuck up my ass?"

Luckily for Chu, Barton doesn't like to flaunt his brainial superiority.

Aw, snap!

Did you see Texas Rep. Joe Barton's mind-boggling take down of that egghead scientist Energy Secretary Dr. Stephen Chu as a means to disprove Global Warming somehow?

Barton's Twitter: "I seemed to have baffled the Energy Sec with basic question – Where does oil come from?"

Seemed to have baffled him. He practically made that nerd's head explode with his flawless logic and creative understand of the Earth's history. I just love watching those stuffed shirts with all their learnin' and numberin' get taken down by a good ol' boy like "Smokey Joe." It was a think of beauty to behold!

Here, watch…

Burn! Buuuuuurrrnnn!!!

Look at that idiot mumbling about "Geology" and "Constantinople Plates" and a bunch of other made-up stuff.

You don't mess with a Texan when it comes to the science of oil and energy. Lone Star scientists discovered long ago that Alaska used to be hot, because that's where Lucifer fell when God threw him out of Heaven. It's as obvious a fact as the fact that oil is made out of angels' tears.

That shit got proved a long time ago.
