It's 10 P.M., Do You Know Where America's Nuclear Secrets Are?

POSTED BY: Mary Phillips-Sandy

LOL
Well, at least until recently they were on the internet, because some LiveJournaler at the Government Printing Office went ahead and posted a cache of classified nuclear documents and site maps on the GPO website, which is on the internet. Which is available to anyone in the world, including and perhaps especially terrorists in wi-fi equipped caves.

Unpublish, people, unpublish!

The publication of the document was revealed Monday in an online newsletter devoted to issues of federal secrecy. That set off a debate among nuclear experts about what dangers, if any, the disclosures posed. It also prompted a flurry of investigations in Washington into why the document had been made public.

On Tuesday evening, after inquiries from The New York Times, the document was withdrawn from a Government Printing Office Web site.

Which reminds me, how can I subscribe to this online newsletter devoted to issues of federal secrecy? And does it come in .pdf format? Because those are a pain to load when the wi-fi signal in the cave gets weak.

At any rate, there's no need to panic, maybe. Experts say the nuclear document (which had "highly confidential" printed on each page, btw) didn't contain any important information, nothing everyone didn't already know, just some administrative junk like…

…detailed information about hundreds of the nation’s civilian nuclear sites and programs, including maps showing the precise locations of stockpiles of fuel for nuclear weapons.

When the terrorists press the big red button I hope they will do us the courtesy of Twittering our demise.
