1. Joe Lieberman walks into a bar with a parrot on his shoulder. The bartender turns to him and says, "Sorry, we don’t serve bitter old egomaniacs here. And fuck your stupid parrot."

2. Joe Lieberman walks into a second bar. The second bartender says, "Get out." Joe Lieberman says, "Why? Can't I buy a drink?" The second bartender says, "Don’t you get it? Everybody hates you."

Hey, far be it from me to come between Joe Lieberman and a guy who wants to call Joe Lieberman a douche nozzle, but this line of argument from HuffPo's Sam Stein seems a tad stupid…

Senator Joseph Lieberman's (I-Conn) threat to filibuster health care legislation that includes a public option for insurance coverage has sent minor shock-waves throughout Washington…

Fifteen years ago, as a freshman Democrat, Lieberman actually worked to have the filibuster killed. He deemed the parliamentary maneuver "a dinosaur" that had become "a symbol of a lot that ails Washington today."

Fifteen years ago, I thought U2 was one of the best bands in music history. Fifteen years ago, I thought modeling my hair off of Robert Smith from The Cure was a really good idea. Fifteen years ago, I thought the cheeseburgers at McDonald's were not all that bad.

People change their minds about things sometimes over the course of a decade and a half. It happens. Calm down.

That said, Joe Lieberman should fall off a cliff and land in the mouth of an exploding shark and then they should both get sucked into a black hole. I'm just sayin'.

Sounding more like an independent than a Democrat, Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., tells ABC News he will campaign for some Republican candidates during the 2010 midterm elections and may not seek the Democratic Senate nomination when he runs for re-election in 2012.

"I probably will support some Republican candidates for Congress or Senate in the election in 2010. I'm going to call them as I see them," Lieberman said.

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said Tuesday that he'd back a GOP filibuster of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's health care reform bill…

"We're trying to do too much at once," Lieberman said. "To put this government-created insurance company on top of everything else is just asking for trouble for the taxpayers, for the premium payers and for the national debt. I don't think we need it now."

Lieberman added that he'd vote against a public option plan "even with an opt-out because it still creates a whole new government entitlement program for which taxpayers will be on the line."

I'm really surprised to see Lieberman acting like this after Barack Obama, Harry Reid and all the other Senate Democrats went to all that trouble to show him that he would never, ever have to face any consequences for any of his bad behavior.

I'm just completely flummoxed over this.

.

* Yes, I know he's technically independent, but he still caucuses with the Democrats. And you'd better believe he's gonna be calling himself a Democrat while campaigning around Connecticut for re-election in 2012.

A new poll of Nevadans shows Reid losing to either of two potential Republican challengers. He trails Danny Tarkanian 49-38, and is behind Sue Lowden 45-40. That follows a survey conducted in May that offered similarly dispiriting results for the senator. At that time, a plurality of the state — 45 percent — said they'd "definitely" vote to replace Reid.

This hardly seems fair. Nevadarians sure are fickle, aren't they?

I mean, he's obviously been working his ass off to stay just as ineffective as he's always been. Is it his fault that now he's the leader of the super-majority in the Senate? Of course, under those kinds of circumstances, his effectiveness will increase ever-so-slightly. It'd be impossible to make it otherwise.

But look at the job he's been doing? He's already caved to pressure from the President to not reprimand Joe Lieberman at all. He's backed down after fifteen minutes of bluster over letting a disgraced governor seat a U.S. Senator for money. And now — his a coup de grace — he's allowing his own party to bitterly divide itself and be led around by completely fabricated Republican talking points.

The guy is pretty much supernaturally ineffective! What more do you want from him, Nevada?

Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman, the Statler and Waldorf of the Republipendent party, are mad as hell! And they'll stop at nothing to get their way, because this is the most important issue they've ever faced…

Sens. Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman on Tuesday threatened to bring the chamber's business to a standstill as they fight to save

Time out. Anyone want to take a guess? Funding for children's health care? A program to help struggling homeowners? Public education? That delicious carrot cake they served in the Senate cafeteria last month?

legislation that would bar the release of photographs showing apparent U.S. abuses of suspected terrorist detainees.

Or, if you will, legislation that would get rid of pesky transparency, which everyone knows is a Socialist-type thing. So Sens. Statler and Waldorf wrote up an amendment about suppressing detainee photos and shoveled it into a pending war spending bill, only to have it removed by some of the closet Socialists in the House of Representatives, and now, I don't know, maybe Lindsey Graham will chain himself to a desk until Congress gives in.

As the angry duo said when they realized their amendment was going down:

“We will employ all the legislative means available to us including opposing the supplemental war spending bill and attaching this amendment, which was unanimously adopted by the Senate, to every piece of legislation the Senate considers, to be sure the President has the authority he needs not to release these photos and any others that would jeopardize the safety and security of our troops.

“The release of the photos will serve as propaganda and recruiting tool for terrorists who seek to attack American citizens at home and abroad."

It's simple logic. If photos of torture serve as terrorist propaganda, the only possible solution is to hide said photos, perhaps in Al Gore's old lockbox, where no one can see them.

Oh, sure, you could also stop torturing people, but that's no fun.

Today we're choosing from amongst three politicians who aren't afraid to let little things like loyalty or trustworthiness get in the way of their political careers: Joe Lieberman, Arlen Specter and Michael Bloomberg, and must choose whom we'd most like to to Grill (barbecue with), Grill (conduct a comprehensive interview with) and Grill (cover their teeth with some phat gold teeth).

Grill – Michael Bloomberg

Well, lets just put aside for one moment the fact that we have a soft spot for Bloomberg — who decided mid-term that he wasn't feeling very Republicany anymore and so declared himself an independent — because he's our mayor and he's somehow managed to run the city for seven years without the need to violate anyone with a plunger.

Do you have any idea how much that guy is worth? Like, billions of billions. I think you'd have to invent a new number to say his net worth aloud in under seven minutes.

So, he's bringing the beer.

.

Grill – Arlen Specter

We really just wanna sit this until-very-recently-Republican down and find out what he was on when he came up with that "magic bullet" theory of his back in the '60s.

'Cause we've tried lots of things, and just can't make our brains come up with stuff that weird.

.

Grill – Joe Lieberman

Did you hear what this supposed-Democrat said about about Barack Obama at the Republican National Convention? And after Obama leant him his magical popularity pixie dust to help him keep his Senate seat after losing the Democratic primaries in 2006.

And then — after the elections were over and Obama came out on top — he somehow managed to get off scott free to keep all his Senate positions.

We figure that guy must have an amazing silver tongue to talk his way out of that shit. So, the gold teeth will just complete the set.

It turns out that there was an actual legal reason why John McCain couldn't choose Joe Lieberman has his running mate last fall.

"Five states have sore loser statutes … [making] it very difficult for someone who's not a member of the Republican Party to become the vice presidential nominee if they only switch parties to become a Republican shortly before the convention,' Culvahouse said in public remarks at the Republican National Lawyers Association annual meeting aired on C-SPAN.

Culvahouse specifically noted the example of West Virginia, a state Republicans have relied on in recent elections, saying "the constitutionality of that statute has already been litigated in West Virginia."

Of course, the fact that he's disliked by Democrats and Republicans alike might have been a factor as well.
