As President Obama threatens to infect America with pus-filled mandates and a nasty, oozing deficit, Republicans are scrambling to position themselves as authorities on health care. They have facts! And talking points, like "dangerous experiment" and "cabal"!

Of course, they also have RNC chairman Michael Steele…

Asked about his health care coverage at the RNC, Steele told CNN, "BlueCross BlueShield, I believe. Or maybe not. I think it's BlueCross BlueShield."

In fact, two sources say it's Cigna that provides the RNC health coverage.

Now, now. There's a very simple reason why Michael Steele doesn't know the name of his health insurance provider. Just give him a minute to explain…

"I haven't had to use the plan too much, thank goodness – although there are days on this job," Steele said.

I think what he means is, Cigna doesn't cover foot-in-mouth disease.

Especially when it's a pre-existing condition.

Michael Steele was selected to head the RNC as the Republicans' answer to Barack Obama. And the similarities are endless. Obama has a meticulous legal mind. Steele has a mustache. Obama is eloquent, charming and effective. Steele is bumbling, sweaty and incompetent. Obama is black, Steele is black. If you can tell them apart, you're either lying or Batman.

There is, however, one crucial difference:

While hosting Bill Bennett's radio show Friday morning, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele appeared to agree with a caller that President Obama is "the magic Negro."

CALLER: It's just like the LA Times said last year, or two years ago — he is the magic Negro.
STEELE: Yeah he is — [laughter]. You read that too, huh?
CALLER: Oh yeah. I read that too. And even when things go wrong, he still manages to come out smelling like a rose.
STEELE: Well, yeah. And it's because he's getting unprecedented coverage — cover — by the media.

Steele just can't pull a quarter out of America's ear, and the cool uncle always gets the press. Guess they'll have to dump him after all.

He goes into a lot more detail, but lemme try to break them down quick and dirty for you…

1. The Libertarians - "believe government should be small and weak and kept that way through low taxes"

2. The Jesus Heads - "believe that they have privileged knowledge of God's Will and hence have the right to use whatever methods available–including the instruments of state–to impose that will on others"

3. The Tight Wads - "accept the premises of the New Deal… but prefer the safety net and tax codes to be thin"

4. The Face Smashers - Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!

5. The Racists - Hey, it's been a good voting bloc to cultivate. (Thanks for getting them warmed up, Democrats!)

All five have managed to co-exist somehow or other in recent years.

The question is how much longer they can keep it up.

Thanks to Barack Obama, who has made it physically impossible for anyone to win an election without Facebook apps and @replies, the Republican National Committee had to convene a Technology Summit and interface real hard about the future. Because if they can just solve that captcha, they're golden…

Eight years of the Bush presidency created and strengthened the netroots, the liberal blogosphere. The conservative blogosphere, the so-called rightroots, appears poised to benefit the same way from the Obama administration.

(Most of the words in this paragraph should be outlawed. Not 'eight,' though! That's a lucky number in China, where we are owned.) Anyway, People You May Know: Michael S. Steele…

"When we get to 2010, I want my campaigns here," [RNC Chairman Michael] Steele continued as he held up his BlackBerry. "I want whatever we're doing to be within my thumb's reach."

Talk to Larry Craig. He's already figured that out.

But in the end, blogging, Facebook and YouTube are just tools, as technocrats like to preach. A few attendees at Friday's event said the RNC should focus not just "on rebooting its operating system," as Ravi Singh explained it, but also on getting a new message. Singh stood out in the room. While addressing the crowd, the American-born and -raised Sikh jokingly referred to himself "as this crazy turban guy with a turban and a beard."

Hilarious! Also prudent. If that crazy turban guy with a turban hadn't made such a joke, the RNC might have instinctively summoned Joe the Plumber from his man-hole to climb on stage and "reboot" the Muslim, who should go back to Al-Qaeda or wherever, with his phony "American" birth certificate.

Today the beleagured Republican National Committee elects its new chairman, so last night GOP leaders gathered for a little group therapy…

The party’s outlook is grim, Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell implored, as he rolled off figure after figure of demographic groups Republicans lost badly in 2008, particularly blacks and Hispanics.

He lamented that the party is increasingly becoming a "regional party."

"That’s called a minority party," the Senate Minority Leader said, "and I didn’t sign up to be in the minority party."

Chairman hopeful Mike Duncan, for one, is confident the GOP can chip its way out of this lily-white sand trap…

Duncan defended the RNC, saying it has "50,000" on their "social network" (presumably, he means Facebook) — more than the Democrats, he contended.

Almost immediately after Duncan finished trying to convince the members of the party’s hip, social networking prowess, the lights in the room went out. The Republicans, literally, were in the dark.

It's funny because it's true! Know what else is true? Here's the RNC on Facebook: 52,991 members. DNC on Facebook: 35,197 members.

So when we start choosing our government by tallying Facebook popularity instead of votes, which should be any day now, the Republicans can stop pretending to care about blacks, Hispanics, women, Jews, Arab Americans, poor people, residents of New Orleans, etc., and get to work on issues that really matter to their constituents.

Like SuperPoking.
