Jon Stewart: Senator Ackbar Is Right

POSTED BY: Matt Tobey

For a while, the GOP has earned a reputation as the party of obstruction with their mantra of "No." Well, in the wake of President Obama's plan for a televised bipartisan health-care summit, their mantra has changed to, "It's a trap!" Which I guess makes them the party of 4chan.

Stephen Colbert's take on the issue can be found below.

The Daily Show and Colbert Report air Monday through Thursday starting at 11pm / 10c.

Fox and Friends All Over This Obama Bowing Scandal Thing

POSTED BY: Dennis DiClaudio

Fox and Friends sinks its teeth into another really important scandal and refuses to let go until everyone is sufficiently scandalized

"Originally people said, you know, the president of the United States bows to no one," host Steve Doocy said then. "But, as it turns out, he bows to everybody." His co-host, Alisyn Camerota, chimed in to say, "We've seen it too many times now."

"It's hard for me to believe this is such a major issue," Iorio said at one point. That didn't stop Doocy and co-host Brian Kilmeade, though. Doocy pressed the mayor, asking, "So it was a mannerly bow?" Iorio responded by trying to politely change topics, perhaps to something with at least a modicum of substance to it.

Ha! Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio sure came out looking silly after having been put through that ringer!

Count that as another scalp on Steve Doocy's scalp-collecting pole.

The Daily Show Declares Scott Brown the 45th President of The United States

POSTED BY: Matt Tobey

Voters in Massachusetts this week elected Republican Scott Brown to the Senate, ending the Democratic supermajority. And even if you're a liberal, you've got to agree the Democrats were a little out of control with all that power. In just a short time they managed to push through universal health care, gay marriage, legalized marijuana, mandatory abortion clinics in every church, putting Che Guevara on Mt. Rushmore and replacing the Second Amendment with a recipe for organic vegan arugula casserole. Thanks for reining them in, Massachusetts.

Coverage of the Massachusetts Senate election continues below. And if you want more John Oliver, be sure to tune in for a new episode of John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show, Friday at 11pm /10c. Meanwhile, this Saturday night in Miami, you can see The Daily Show & Friends stand-up show at The South Beach Comedy Festival, featuring John Oliver, Rob Riggle and TDS writer Rory Albanese. Click here for tickets and details.

The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday at 11pm / 10c.

Steve Doocy Totally Calls Out Jon Stewart for Something He Kinda Sorta Said

POSTED BY: Dennis DiClaudio

If this Climategate scandal thing hasn't been the defining focus of your life for the past two weeks, that's probably due to one of the following things…

a. You possess critical thinking skills and are able to discern the subtle differences between a couple climatologists behaving somewhat unprofessionally and a vast and sweeping scientific conspiracy.

b. You don't watch Fox News.

So, anyway, this morning on Fox and Friends — an infotainment program not to be confused with the considerably less paranoid and fear-mongering animated Wes Anderson film, though both feature anthropomorphized talking vermin — Steve Doocy pointed out how, in this segment from Tuesday night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart finally comes around and embraces global warming denialism

Doocy: Extraordinarily, take a look at this. Jon Stewart of The Daily Show, which has historically bashed Republicans and, you know, not bashed Democrats, really took a shot at Al Gore. Look at this.

Video clip of Stewart on TDS: Poor Al Gore. Global warming completely debunked via the very Internet you invented. Oh, oh the irony. The iron-y.

Doocy: It is pretty extraordinary that Jon Stewart would be taking a shot at Al Gore, who's been on his program a couple of times.

Now, some people might claim that Fox and Friends is quote-mining. Or providing a statement without the context needed to fully grasp the actual intent of the speaker. Or lying via editing software. Some people might claim that.

But I would deny it.

The full Daily Show clip — featured an un-taken-out-of-context version of Stewart's quote — after the jump.

Jon Stewart Rips Apart Tucker Carlson Yet Again

POSTED BY: Matt Tobey

It's been almost five years since Jon Stewart's famous take-down of Tucker Carlson (and to a lesser extent Paul Begala) on CNN's Crossfire, and many might say Carlson hasn't changed a bit. Well, that's just not fair. As you can see at the 5:12 mark in this clip from last night's Daily Show, Carlson has transformed from a smug, disingenuous, incurious bow-tie-clad buffoon into a smug, disingenuous, incurious, neck-tie-clad buffoon.

The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday at 11pm / 10c.
